We are just going to ignore you.

That’s right, the famed groundhog Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow this morning leading believers to say, 6 more weeks of winter.  Well, we are just going to flat out ignore you Punxsutawney Phil.  In your alleged 125 years of predicting the weather, only 16 times have you NOT seen your shadow.  So…let’s just say, based on the current weather conditions, we are expecting to wear our Gossip Swimsuits sooner than later!

Too Awesome!

These cupcakes are too awesome not to share! Too bad they’re located “across the pond”.

Target is at it again!

That’s right! Target is getting ready to debut its next designer collaboration with  none other than Jason Wu! Wu is probably most known for his connection to the First Lady, Michelle Obama.  Mrs. Obama wore one of his gowns to the inaugural ball for her husband, President Obama.  It’s fair to say, she played a large role in launching Wu’s career and getting his name in the media and clothes into stores.  Now, after dressing the most fashionable of celebrities and elite, Wu is making his designs available to Target shoppers.

With prices ranging from $19.99 for a scarf, $24.99 for a handbag, $39.99 for a dress, and $54.99 for a jacket (a far cry from his usual prices!), we know we will be hitting up Target on February 5th!

“Thug Life”?

Rihanna has added a new tattoo to her collection of at least 14 tattoos, already made up of  stars on her back, “shhh…” on her finger, and a skull tattoo on her ankle.

This time, the Talk That Talk singer inked herself with a tattoo familiar to the rap community.  “Thug Life” is now permanently placed on her knuckles as a tribute to the late rapper Tupac who had the same phrase tattooed on his stomach. Thug Life is also the name of a music group Tupac started back in 1993.

Looking at the picture of Rihanna displaying her new ink, we can’t help but find it funny that she is wearing a t-shirt with the face of The Beatles member John Lennon on it. Not exactly what one would considered to be very “Thug”!

Chili for the Chill

For those of you not able to enjoy the summer time weather going on here in Southern California, sorry for rubbing it in,  we found a delicious recipe for home made chili to help beat the chill. This recipe comes from the Baked Bree blog and we definitely suggest you check out the site.  With recipes for Chocolate Cherry Cupcakes, Boursin Pasta, and Eggs in a Bread Bowl, you can see why we cant resist visiting  this site time and time again. Check out the recipe below!

Ingredients

  • 3 Tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 pounds lean beef, cubed
  • 1 onion
  • 1 poblano pepper, seeded and chopped
  • 1 jalapeno, seeded and chopped
  • 5 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 Tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 Tablespoon cumin
  • 2 teaspoons oregano
  • 1 teaspoon chipotle pepper powder
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 (15-ounce) can Rotel
  • 1 (15-ounce) can red kidney beans
  • 1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 2 Tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 3 Tablespoons masa harina
  • toppings:
  • grated cheddar cheese
  • chopped red onion
  • cilantro
  • sliced jalapenos
  • sour cream

Instructions

  1. Add olive to the pan. Brown beef in small batches over medium-high heat. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  2. Add a little more oil if needed, and add the onions and peppers. Saute until they begin to soften 4-5 minutes.
  3. Add the garlic, all of the spices, and the sugar. Cook for a minute to bring out all of the flavors from the spices.
  4. Add the beef broth, water, kidney beans, Rotel, tomato sauce, and balsamic.
  5. Add the beef back to the pan. Simmer oven medium-low heat for 2 hours, or 6 hours on LOW in the slow cooker.
  6. Before serving, mix together the masa harina (cornstarch and flour work well also) and 1/2 cup of water. Stir into the soup and let it come up to a bubble. If you are making this in the slow cooker, turn it to HIGH and let it cook until it begins to thicken. Give a taste and adjust seasonings as needed.
  7. Serve with sour cream, cheese, cilantro, and sliced peppers.

Shake up your Monday with some Hospitality

This is the type of sound that has us wishing it was summer.  Wanting to roll down the windows and head west towards the beach with this Hospitality soundtrack playing in the background.

Up until 30 minutes ago, hospitality was a warm beverage, snack, and place to rest our head.  But that’s all changed after listening to these two tracks form the band Hospitality.  With their soon to be released (1/31) first album, under Merge Records, Hospitality has already won our hearts and place on our iPod.   We hope you enjoy the sound of this trio of talent out of Brooklyn as much as we do!

You’ve Worn Silk, Right?

These itsy bitsy spiders were not crawling up any water spouts; they were too busy spinning webs to create this one of a kind cape.  But these spiders are not your ordinary, run of the mill spider, they are the Golden Orb spider found in Madagascar.  And well, they also aren’t quite “itsy bitsy”, with a leg span as large as a hand and they don’t produce the typical web, but one colored in gold.

1.2 million Female spiders were used over a 4 year process to collect enough spider silk (also called Gossamer) to create this golden couture cape.  This light as air feeling cape is currently on display at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.

Are you ready for your very own spider silk clothing?

It’s Chilly, Cold, Freezing

Okay, okay, okay. Living in Southern California, we know we really can’t complain about the cold weather (but you bet we do, and sometimes to our relatives living in the snow covered states). Our hands get cold; we want to wear stylish scarves, hats, and boots too! And speaking of cold hands, we came across this really cute, inexpensive, and simple DIY for making your own homemade mittens! Just grab a cute sweater you outgrown and start sewing!

Step 1: Turn sweater inside out.

Step 2: Use your hand or existing mittens as a template.  Make a chalk outline of hand/mitten starting at the hem (see pic!).

Step 3: Using a sewing machine, sew along the chalk outlines.

Step 4: Cut out sewn mitten.

Step 5: Turn them inside out, place them on your hands, and head outside for a snowball fight!

Simple, cute, practical!

Thanks to to A Beautiful Mess blog for sharing this DIY!

Took Long Enough

We are surprised this didn’t happen seasons ago! Britney, Gaga, and Madonna have all been honored with a Glee episode tribute, but the “King of Pop” has been left out.  Not any longer!

Whether you follow the show or not, you will probably want to check out this Michael Jackson themed episode of Glee premiering at the end of the month. Check out the preview for this long awaited episode!
