The year’s last lovelyest smile…

Cold nights, sunny days, color changing leafs, crisp air and the weak sun rays mark  we have officially entered the Fall season. For Californians this may not mean much, but for the rest of the country this means pulling out the jackets and coats as well as the boot variety!

For many it’s hard to say good bye to summer but for others fall is the most exciting time! It is a creative and adventurous period with Halloween around the corner, Thanksgiving followed by Christmas. This means a lot of baking treats, skiing, ice skating, decorating and carved pumpkins! But remember to always get ready for the new year to come, that’s when the new Gossip Swim line will be on sale!

An inspirational legend…

August has begun and with it come many important birthdays of very inspirational icons. We would like to pay homage to one in particular by listing her most famous quotes.

This iconic personality was not only a woman, but a strong, feminist and revolutionary woman during a period in life that woman were not encouraged to think and act so  independent. Through a rough and painful childhood she stayed afloat and survived with vast success doing something that started as a hobby; Leaving her perpetual trademark around the world. This woman is the person that started the sun tanning trend and  is one of the most famous and important people that has ever existed  in history and  has been entered into the 100 most important people of the century along the side of Albert Einstein.

Happy birthday to an inspiration and the woman responsible for the existence of the little black dress.
Gabrielle BonheurCocoChanel (19 August 1883 – 10 January 1971)

Chanel’s Undying words:

“A girl should be two things: Classy and fabulous”

“Don’t spend time beating on a wall, hoping to transform it into a door.”

“Elegance is not the prerogative of those who have just escaped from adolescence, but of those who have already taken possession of their future.”

“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.”

“Great loves too must be endured.”

“Guilt is perhaps the most painful companion of death.”

“How many cares one loses when one decides not to be something but to be someone.”

“I invented my life by taking for granted that everything I did not like would have an opposite, which I would like.”

“In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different.”

“Success is often achieved by those who don’t know that failure is inevitable”

“The most courageous act is still to think for yourself. Aloud.”

Just Relax…

Life has been a bit faster and upbeat than usual. We are now going through it at the speed of light. Making some of us feel uneasy and overwhelmed.  Have you been feeling exhausted and low on energy lately? Know that you are not the only one. Sometimes the pace of lifestyle we have takes a toll, that is why we bring you a couple of great options for maxing and relaxing. Below are a few tips on how to relax your body and mind.

5 Easy steps to unwinding

1) Breath: for 30 seconds take deep breaths and remember to exhale … Aaahh!

2) Yawn: Yes, as weird as it sounds make sure you take time to yawn, this relaxes the jaw muscles

3) Get a massage: this is probably an all time favorite for many. After a long day pamper yourself. Massage your shoulders, feet or neck

4)A warm cloth: Place a warm wet cloth on your forehead and lay down, feel the stress melt away. This may seem obvious but, you’d be surprised how many of us don’t do it

5) Music: Listen to relaxing and spiritually uplifting music or affirmations. It doesn’t matter if all you have is time for one song. That one song will make a world of difference

Let us know if you would lie to see more tips on this or other subjects that will help you continue or gain inspiration for your daily life experiences.

Power of Giving…

No secret that in order to receive love, one must first give love.  Love can be manifested in many shapes and forms.  For example take this new movement happening nation and worldwide. Defeate? Not for me…

It is known that the biggest obstacle we can encounter is ourselves.  Today Gossipers we would like to really point out the importance of believing.  Yes, such cliché, you may say. But really take a moment to think about it. How many times have you stopped yourself from doing something because you feel it’s too risky or difficult?

On our inspirational Monday we want you to IMAGINE.  Yes, imagine yourself five years from now, how about ten years from now. What do you see? Envision what you want the most gossipers and believe it!

There some people that believes in the metaphysical act that has been followed for years now “Laws of Attraction” is the new thought belief that Like attracts like.  Could it be true? Has anyone practiced this believe?

I am not sure if it’s true or not. What I do know is that when you want something really bad and make the adjustments necessary and plan out the steps to achieve your vision (goal) anything is possible! Don’t be afraid to imagine, be a dreamer, picture the unthinkable after all that is how some of our greatest inventions such as a plane, light and the iPod came about.

Far away in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow where they lead.
Louisa May Alcott

Let your Imagination run!

The Pasadena Chalk Festival took place this past weekend in the city of  Pasadena, CA where over 600 artists from across Southern California and beyond,  used 25,000 sticks of pastel chalk to create spectacular murals on concrete throughout the beautiful courtyards of Paseo Colorado. Amazing works of art from every style imaginable, classical to contemporary, whimsical and fantastic to socially relevant.

We were specially inspired by a very talented Sherman Oaks, CA artist and Art Institute of California-Los Angeles grad by the name of  Fabi Munguia.  This talented lady worked throughout the weekend in a portrait of her father and grandfather in honor of  Father’s Day.  Fabi, showed dedication, inspiration and great spirit throughout the festival. Like Fabi, remember that anything you do in life do it with great dedication, hard work and inspiration. Let your imagination run and enjoy every moment to the fullest!

– over every idea.

About the Pasadena Chalk Festival:

PASADENA CHALK FESTIVAL attracts artists and design teams from many regions of the country and virtually every Los Angeles-area community. Leading art schools, museums and cultural centers are also represented at the festival. Chalk benefits the community arts programs of the Light Bringer Project, a Pasadena-based nonprofit arts organization. This one-of-a-kind public art event, now in its 19th year, is free-of-charge at Paseo Colorado.

It’s not only a great place to find unique T’s but also a great place to discover new artists and get inspired!

Sketchy

I will always remember a moment in High School when my art teacher was asking about what career path I wanted to pursue.  My response to her was, “Well, you can’t have a career in art, because you just won’t make any money.”  Her eyes widened in disbelief, but at the time, I really thought that was true!   Well, it’s not true, especially now.

With deep importance now being placed on quality handmade products, as well as the maturation of the vast young blog-iverse, there is a new acceptance of illustrative art; unpolished, sketched out, imperfect (but OH so perfect!), raw illustration.  I am beside myself because this has exploded just in the last 5 years or so.   Having graduated from a school of fine arts in 2006, I’ve witnessed a marked cultural shift in the perception of illustration.  A lot has changed in the art community, or at least the digital art community in which I am always immersed.  When I was in art school, illustration was only a preliminary stage in your craft before the ultimate; oil painting.  BFA in Illustration? Yeah right!

Yet almost as soon as I entered the fashion industry,  Etsy really started taking off, the craft revolution began, and inspirational blogs exploded with a collective tweet heard ’round the world.   Illustration has grown to be in very high demand because of these factors.  If you’re talented, you’re wanted.   Even if it’s not your main source of income, you can make substantial supplemental money by selling original illustrations.  The apparel industry has embraced this trend with open arms, too.  There are so many tees and dresses and bikinis out there with fantastic illustrations.  ‘Wearable Art’ is no longer confined to impractical couture pieces that would garner laughs and stares at the supermarket.  You can even pick up some fabric paint and paint your own illustrations on anything you own and, if you’re talented, it’ll look like you bought it that way.  What an exciting time!

In all the inspiration research we do for Gossip, I am constantly coming across artists that really speak to me.  The style I tend to lean towards is soft, subtle, almost ghostly illustrations with an ethereal quality or a dewy atmospheric glow to them.  I’m an emotional person and therefore prefer whispered thoughts in art (because I’m so sensitive, the louder ones almost seem to shout in my ear!).   I can really appreciate an artist who can saturate an image with emotion with only a little media on the paper or a slight hand.  Among my favorites are frogun, Laura Laine, and Miss Van, as well as all of the ones I’ve featured here.  Who are some of your favorite artists?

1.) Dean Goelz 2.) Maria Gil Ulldemolins 3.) Laura Laine 4.) Laura Laine 5.) Zhou Fan 6.) Sam Weber 7.) Garance Doré 8.) Charmaine Olivia 9.) Rory Kurtz 10.) Joe Bauldoff 11.) Miss Van 12.) Miss Van
