Sheer For Your Shoes

The sheer trend has finally made it to shoes.  We just came  across these Sheer Pointy Toe Flats from Cheap Money and the verdict is still out.  We love the neon, but not sure about the whole see-through shoe. What’s your thoughts on these bright sheer flats? They would definitely make a great addition to a color block outfit.

A Healthy Start

This is the type of Gossip we like to hear.

Slowly but surely the fashion industry is changing its standards and listening to women everywhere. Vogue magazine has announced that they will be more conscious of the models within their pages and keep the too young and too thin out of them and will be focusing on more healthy looking models.

Whether young or old, it is clear that people are impressionable and vulnerable and highly impacted by the people, images, and environments around them. Seeing idealized, unhealthy looking models in the pages of our favorite magazines can play crazy mind games and injure our self esteem.

Conde Nast International (owner of Vogue Magazine) Chairman Jonathan Newhouse sums it up perfectly stating, “Vogue believes that good health is beautiful. Vogue Editors around the world want the magazines to reflect their commitment to the health of the models who appear on the pages and the well-being of their readers”.

Our question, how thin is too thin? Seems kind of subjective, how will they monitor healthy? And what about the massive amounts of Photoshop, will that also be toned down?

Shade Yourself

With all of the self tanners out there, there is no reason to forgo sunscreen. Sun damage is a major health risk, so we are always trying to find stylish ways to shade our eye and skin from the shining sun. Whether you are strolling the local flea market, at the pool, beach, or BBQ, throw on a fashionable hat to help keep the rays out of your eyes and off of you skin. And remember, even when covered up, sunscreen is always a good idea!

Top it off

Ever wonder what to do with those old plastic zig zag scrunchy headbands you have stored in the back of your accessories drawer? Well, here is a simple and super on trend DIY for you to try out.  Turn your old headband into an ethereal chain crown.

Follow these easy steps:

What you need

1. Circular headband

2. Chains (any style/color you want)

3. Beading Pliers

4.Jump rings

Steps:

1. Place chains (about 30) on a flat surface and taper them with pliers with the longest chain in the middle

2. Attach jump rings to the end of the chain and then to each section of the headband. Start wit the longest chain at the back and work your way up.

3. Leave the top half of the headband with no chains

Chalk: Not just for the playground!

We love to constantly switch up our style.  Whether it’s a new nail polish, eye shadow, bangs, no bangs; it’s just fun to make changes.  But, like many gals, making changes especially ‘permanent’ ones take a lot of commitment.  More commitment than we are usually willing to make!  One type of style switch up is hair color.  And colorful streaks are definitely “in Vogue” this season!  So here is a tip, throw out that bottle of bleach and Manic Panic color and…use CHALK! Here’s how!

What You Need:
- Soft Pastel Chalk (check out your local art store)
- Spray Bottle W/ Water
- Flat Iron OR Curling Iron
- Rubber Gloves (let’s keep those hands clean)
- Old Towel or T-Shirt (it will get dirty)

Directions:

- Take a small piece of hair you want color on (1 inch section) and spray lightly with water (make damp but not wet)
- Twist the piece of hair and use the pastel chalk to color it (move up and down the hair)
- Repeat on all pieces you want dyed
- Let hair fully dry
- Take your flat iron or curling iron and go over your hair (this will set the color making it last longer)
Hair color will likely last from 1 day (after washing) or a week depending on your hair color and texture.

Target is at it again!

That’s right! Target is getting ready to debut its next designer collaboration with  none other than Jason Wu! Wu is probably most known for his connection to the First Lady, Michelle Obama.  Mrs. Obama wore one of his gowns to the inaugural ball for her husband, President Obama.  It’s fair to say, she played a large role in launching Wu’s career and getting his name in the media and clothes into stores.  Now, after dressing the most fashionable of celebrities and elite, Wu is making his designs available to Target shoppers.

With prices ranging from $19.99 for a scarf, $24.99 for a handbag, $39.99 for a dress, and $54.99 for a jacket (a far cry from his usual prices!), we know we will be hitting up Target on February 5th!

You’ve Worn Silk, Right?

These itsy bitsy spiders were not crawling up any water spouts; they were too busy spinning webs to create this one of a kind cape.  But these spiders are not your ordinary, run of the mill spider, they are the Golden Orb spider found in Madagascar.  And well, they also aren’t quite “itsy bitsy”, with a leg span as large as a hand and they don’t produce the typical web, but one colored in gold.

1.2 million Female spiders were used over a 4 year process to collect enough spider silk (also called Gossamer) to create this golden couture cape.  This light as air feeling cape is currently on display at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.

Are you ready for your very own spider silk clothing?

It’s Chilly, Cold, Freezing

Okay, okay, okay. Living in Southern California, we know we really can’t complain about the cold weather (but you bet we do, and sometimes to our relatives living in the snow covered states). Our hands get cold; we want to wear stylish scarves, hats, and boots too! And speaking of cold hands, we came across this really cute, inexpensive, and simple DIY for making your own homemade mittens! Just grab a cute sweater you outgrown and start sewing!

Step 1: Turn sweater inside out.

Step 2: Use your hand or existing mittens as a template.  Make a chalk outline of hand/mitten starting at the hem (see pic!).

Step 3: Using a sewing machine, sew along the chalk outlines.

Step 4: Cut out sewn mitten.

Step 5: Turn them inside out, place them on your hands, and head outside for a snowball fight!

Simple, cute, practical!

Thanks to to A Beautiful Mess blog for sharing this DIY!
